is to play Tier 1 decks in the "play" queue. You have so many people that the easiest way to get daily rewards of gold/exp. The Daily Rewards have ruined the "Play" queue. While the player might be playing a lot of rares/mythics, maybe they're still just playing a jank deck, and, based on my experience, the match making system doesn't account for this.
If a player has lost the last 15 games, maybe they shouldn't be matched up against more Tier 1 decks, regardless about how "strong" the game thinks their decks should be.
The "Play" queue matchmaking process needs improvement. My issues can be boiled down to these points: I'm talking about unrelenting matchups against Fires, Adventures, Flash, all while I'm sitting here with my (by design) sub-optimal deck). But instead I'm trying to play more of a casual game and then just get completely crushed over and over and over again. Why are all that I face in the unranked "play" queue top tier decks? If I wanted to play meta decks I would switch over to playing ranked matches. But it's just so incredibly frustrating, especially when you're not playing ranked, you're just trying to have fun in the "play" queue, and all you face is Tier 1 decks. I know the card sucks, but it also seems like it might be fun to play. I get it, it's not the most optimal deck - and I fully expect it to lose against top tier meta decks. ]) but when you try out your deck you just get COMPLETELY crushed. It can be super frustrating when you're more of a casual player who doesn't want to follow the meta and you brew a random deck focused around some jank card that you think would be fun to play (e.g. I get it, but please hear me out, because there are many other players out there who might approach this game differently. I totally support that - it's one of the things that makes Magic super fun. Unfortunately, they seem to want to pick a narrow list of viable archetypes and manipulate the META to a fine degree.I know there are a lots of players out there who appreciate the current meta format and really enjoy maximizing and brewing the latest and greatest decks and trying them out. Have you noticed that in spite of some extremely broken cards in recent sets, almost none of them actually make it into top 20 deck archetypes anymore? We don't see Standard bans and refunds anymore, because they squash them using the matchmaking algorithm! 😅
I mean, decks with a lifetime win rate over 32 matches of 70%+, turning so dramatically to the downside that they've had lifetime win rates driven into the mid 20s before I've finally had enough of the absurdity. I've had mono green standard decks go something like 30-8, only to then go 2-24. However, the game's algorithms will eventually solve it. Maybe once a month, I will tune a mono green deck to achieve an insane win rate, often 70%+ over the first three dozen matches. Or, is it just some quirk of the way the algorithm has trained itself, and something they are having trouble "correcting"? The only question left for me is, have they intentionally decided to kill mono green in the current standard meta? (Only Golgari gets worse matchups consistently). I honestly think it's almost entirely the matchmaking algorithm to blame, not that the design team has been an utter failure at keeping green playable. 1 Skysovereign, Consul Flagship (KLR) 272
